Crystal Lake Land Purchases

In May 2007, the City of Newton acquired by eminent domain the lakeshore property at 20 Rogers Street. The city had previously been in negotiations to buy the land from the owner of the property, which is adjacent to the Crystal Lake beach.

In September 2008, the city signed a purchase and sale agreement for the purchase of the shoreline portion of an adjacent property, 230 Lake Avenue. With this purchase, the City will own a contiguous lakeside path from the Crystal Lake beach to the existing parkland at Levingston Cove.

The future use of the newly acquired land remains to be determined. Here is one suggested plan. The Crystal Lake Task Force released a draft master plan in January 2009.

20 Rogers Street		230 Lake Avenue is located between 20 Rogers Street and the Levingston Cove park area. The city is acquiring the waterfront portion of this property.
A high stone wall once was the backdrop to the swimming area. The new parkland is behind the wall.		By 2008, most of the wall has been taken down.
